Tony Hawks Pro Skater 1+2 studio Vicarious Visions could be about to lose its name as part of its ongoing merger with Blizzard.
The news comes according to a report by Polygon. The report claims employees were told of the move during a town hall meeting on Wednesday evening. It’s currently unknown if the studio will get a new name. However, some workers speculate it’ll go under the new moniker Blizzard Albany.
Activision Blizzard first announced the merger of Vicarious Visions into Blizzard team back in January. Some workers, it seems, were under the impression the studio would still operate under its old name while supporting work on Overwatch, Diablo and World of Warcraft.
However, it seems most employees weren’t entirely surprised by the move. One apparently said the “writing was on the wall” while another was disappointed by the lack of transparency. They also claim the announcement was made during what was supposedly a “light and quick” meeting where many employees were wearing Halloween costumes.
Thankfully, the employees have apparently been informed by management that no layoffs are currently planned. But it’s a sad end to a studio with a 30-year history and whose final title was an excellent one. Farewell, Vicarious Visions.
