Epic Games reportedly considering Fortnite movie as it launches an entertainment division

Rumours are swirling that Epic Games are considering a Fortnite feature-length movie, as the company launches its own entertainment division.

According to a paywalled report by The Information (as spotted by Eurogamer) the company is moving into the TV and movie business. The move is said to be a result of Epic’s inability to expand on iPhones thanks to its recent lawsuit. Naturally, a Fortnite film is one of the first ideas being bandied around.

Supporting evidence comes from the recent hire of three former top LucasFilm executives joining Epic in the last year. These include former VP of physical production Jason McGatlin heading up Epic’s special projects division. Prior to his appointment, he was an executive producer for the recent Star Wars films under Disney. Lynn Bartsch and Chris Furia, meanwhile, will be head of business affairs and vice president of production finance, respectively. (Both of whom are also LucasFilm alumni.)

There’s no further details on what form a Fortnite movie would take. Whether it would focus on the game’s existing characters, or an entirely new cast. However, the game has seen a swathe of cameos from other properties over its several years, so perhaps a Ready Player One style crossover is in the cards?

It’s very early days yet for any potential Fortnite movie, so it may be a while before we hear more. The battle royale game itself, lest we forget, is currently in the middle of Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 8: Cubed.
